  • An extreme close-up (ECU) of a prop sprinkler is the first item we notice when we arrive at Mike's residence.
  • A large detached home with additions, a basement, shutters, curtains, a large garden, trees, and outside lamps is then shown in the establishing shot.
  • Sprinkler from the 1980s.
  • Depicts the household's financial situation and gives the impression that they are middle class and rich.
  • A functional sprinkler demonstrates your garden's maintenance.
  • Not like Will's residence.
  • Begins with Mike implying that he is in charge.
  • Mike is on one side of the sound bridge, while Garden is on the other.
  • Dustan's scene alternates between a close-up and a mid-shot.
  • Dustin's outfit contrasts with Mike's.
  • Outfit from the 1980s.
  • Dustin uses his hand to wipe his nose.
  • Get all the boys' initial shots.
  • Dustin uses his hand to wipe his nose.
  • Obtain the first long master photo of all the boys together.
  • In terms of friendship, all four of them are on an equal terms.
  • In reality, the basement is located in a warehouse, and it has been expertly designed to reflect the 1980s.
  • The plot of 'the thing' actually is very similar to season 3 so it is hinting to stranger things fans.
  • Dustin snorts showing his lack of awareness.
  • Mike is in control and the camera moves from around the stair case maybe suggesting that someone is watching them.
  • Mike bashes the table twice..
  • Second hit is a explosion .

  • Representation in Stranger Things:
    - Lucas is a black American
    - Will is gay
    - Dustin has a medical disability
    - Mike is the leader

    Dialogue:
    • "We are deep shit" Dustin - childish language.
    • "Cast a protection spell" Dustin - potentially cowardly.
    • "Don't be a pussy, fireball him" - brave.
    • sexism - saying that he is "acting like a woman" because he is acting cowardly.. - sexual swear word.
    • Swearing to seem more grown up.
    • The game they are playing juxtaposing their adulthood.
    • One black character that is sexist and jumps straight to violence.
    • Lucas cheats on the game when Mike goes upstairs - tries to convince Will to lie to Mike.
    • Nancy closes her door on Dustin showing that she is grown up and doesn't want to talk to her brothers friends.
    • Will tells Mike that the Demogorgon got him and Mike says nothing at all because he is surprised because he didn't lie.
    • Lucas says "goodnight ladies" and Dustin replies "kiss your mum for me" suggesting that it is bad to be a lady.
    • Dustin and Will race when Dustin says "son of a bitch" - sexist claim.
    • Will asks to take the x-men 134 (links to the hellfire club in season 4) intertextuality of the next season and x men
    Theorists this may represent:
// Henry Jenkins (making art combining two things, x-men and strangerthings)
// Stuart Hall (sound effects - using loud noise when bike lights turn on emphasising it)
// Stuart Hall (representation theory - creating deliberate stereotypes to deconstruct the stereotype from the inside)

    Angles:
    • High angle shot from the top of the stairs looking down into the basement creating ominous atmosphere.
    • Mike looks small, vulnerable, childlike and he only takes up 1/6 of the screen while making Karen look powerful.
    • Karen fills the full screen and is double the height of Mike.
    • Karen comes in and tells them to pack up in a way a mum would.
    • Karen goes from the basement to the kitchen.
    • Ted is the usual American dad who doesn't have much going on. Karen is in charge.
contrast between Will's and Mike's homes.
Although Will's house is far from Mike's, it is not particularly lovely or costly, no one is home, and he has a single mother. Mike's house is busy, but it is a socially connected family in a good part of town.
