Why show a close up? One reason to show a close up is to highlight facial expressions. In media, women are 4 times more likely to be involved in a close up, than males. This could be why there are stereotypes of women being more emotional.

What is an industry? An industry is a company or place that makes things.

In media, we focus on questions such as, why someone edited a section the way they did, focus', designs, sets etc.

Some media industries include;

ʚɞ Disney      ʚɞ Warner Brothers      ʚɞ HBO     ʚɞ Sony    ʚɞ Nintendo     ʚɞ BBC Radio 1    ʚɞ Twitter (X)  ʚɞ Netflix      ʚɞ Apple        ʚɞ News corp

News Corp

News Corp, owned by Rupert Murdoch, owns many newsfeeds as different from The Sun, The Times, Vogue , Fox, Sky and many many more. Each of these catering to a different type of audience with different reading ages. Often times, honesty is intentionally shady when it comes to the products of any of these companies due to the reviews all essentially coming from the same person. Rupert Murdoch owns 1/5 (19%) of the UK press, this is the illusion of choice.

This shadiness continues as Viscount Rothermere, a royal, owns 33% of the UK press. Some of these invole; Daily Mail and DMGT.

 Disney

Disney owns an exceptionally large amount of companies, some of these include; Marvel, Disney Channel, Cruise Line, ABC Studios, XD, Lucas Film and many more. Just because the names are different, they are ultimately owned by Disney. As soon as Disney bought Lucas Film for example, Disney owns the rights to Star Wars. This may lead to the dilution of quality for fans and the same thing for Marvel. On the other hand, other fans it may be fantastic for as Disney's money leads to more merchandise and content for them to watch. In shorter terms, the mass production of content may lead to more quality issues and a lack of creativity/originality.
In recent years, Disney has been caught in the fire due to controversy as they haven't been original with remakes and fans have been heavily criticizing them.

"Industries rely on repetition through use of stars, genres, franchises, repeatable narratives and so on to sell formats to audiences, then industries and governments try to impose scarcity, especially through copyright laws" - David Hesmondhalgh

The implications of Disney's ownership:
The companies have changed a great deal from their origins therefore as consumers, we may not be getting what we expected.

The business is run by the CEO (chief executive officer).
Conglomerate - Business corporation formed by the purchases of other business.
Global conglomerate - Business corporation with purchased businesses in more than one country, i.e. Disney or Marvel.
Nostalgia sells, it's one of the most profitable effective pull factor, it is something that attracts people to buy because of its feeling for yearning for childhood. It is the emotion that is bound to sell the quickest.

The global economy has been undercoming some really difficult times due to the politics not necessarily spending money on the arts, Covid causing chaos and the cost of living going up, this is why companies like Disney purchase nostalgic companies and movies with the opportunity of sequels as of its reliable source of income. A perfect example of how the media has to respond to crisis' in the world would be Inside Out 2, presenting the mental health crisis of young teenagers now a days.

Captin America, Avengers End game, Iron man 1, Avengers infinity war, Iron man 2, The Avengers, Guardians of the Galaxy, Eternals, Iron man 3, Guardians of the Galaxy V2, Thor, Ragnorock and many more.

Both Netflix and Spotify ensure the best user experience on a contract of subscriptions. This means that for a consumer to enjoy the applications to their full use (or use them at all in Netflix's case), users have to pay or provide the company with Ad revenue. This may suggest that the customers are not in the best interest for these companies.
In comparison to Disney, I believe that all three of these companies are more focused on controlling media and having profits as they're main interest in regards to the consumers.

Overtime, technology has adapted and changed in many ways to evolve to how society wishes. During the 1980s, technology wasn't as advanced and to play video games, you would have to go out with friends and socialize at an arcade to play. As time progressed, technology became smaller and more affordable, meaning more people became to play by themselves in their houses. Finally coming up to now, technology is able to communicate with each other - allowing people to play games with friends and socialize while still being able to enjoy the comfort of your own home.
