What is a stereotype? A stereotype is a huge part of representation. Stereotypes are often generalized and inaccurate due to the exaggeration of certain features or aspects from certain groups. Stereotypes tend to become more accepted in society depending on the frequency in which they are stated. Barthes, the creator of semiotics (the studies of signs) suggests the meaning of attributes to these stereotypes aren't real and are used to reinforce dominant groups in society. He suggests that middle-class, educated, white men will always be seen in a more positive-light in comparison to other groups regardless of whether it's true or not.
Producers decide on which way to represent and portray stories often dependent upon how they presume their audience is going to react.
Stereotypes can be useful, a good word for a typical example is archetype (typical image of a person or a thing), so a workmen road sign.
Feminist Theorist, Liesbet van Zoonen states; In a culture which is driven by men, women's bodies are presented as something to have, to use. Whereas men's bodies are seen as inspiration, something to look at and admire. So in a nutshell, she suggests that women are seen as an accessory to men.

Hyper reality may become an issue as it saturates and covers the natural reality. For example, Disney's castle is hyper reality and may precede the knowledge and understanding of what a castle is and its purpose. This is a simulacrum. A simulacrum is a similar image and reality is distorted as a result of this. Another example of this would be press studs on jeans are now a simulacrum as we don't need to carry stones around for manual labor, they have lost their meanings.
What is hyperreality? Hyperreality is when the unreal world is more real to the person than the real world.
