At the age of 23, Walt Disney had arrived in California and then proceeded to make the movie, Alice and Wonderland. On the16th October 1923, began Disney. The Disney brothers cartoon studio consisted of Walt, Roy and his other brothers. This was then when he made his first recognizable character, Oswald the lucky rabbit. The distributer then attempted to go behind his back and make this character a part of his own studio for less money without Walt. This was a painful lesson as Walt re-read the prints and realized he did not have the rights to Oswald unlike the distributer. After the loss of this character, Walt then created the character famously known as Mickey Mouse, giving him a personality that endeared him to all. Unfortunately, his first to films were unable to sell due to the lack of noise when sound was revolutionizing in the film industry however, his third film involved 'Steamboat Willie' with a catching theme tune and fully synchronized sound. This was when Mickey noted recognizability. After this, Walt Disney soon produces another series named 'Silly Symphonies' which involved different casts of characters and quick humor. 'Flowers and trees' a Silly Symphony and the first color-cartoon ended up winning the Academy Award of Best Cartoon for 1932. For the rest of that decade, Disney won the Oscar every year. In 1934, Walt informed his animators that they will be creating an animated feature film, telling them the story of 'Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs'.

The Secrets To Disney's Success:

Their organizational structure allows them to facilitate synergies through corporation's full suite of global operations which is made up of various business segments. (The way that they are designed allows them to work easier with other companies and function collaborations quicker)

Collaborations like this helps Disney to reach their vision and mission statements which allow the company to ensure its position as an entertainment industry leader for several decades and remain competitive, despite its competition from the likes of Universal Pictures, Viacom, Sony etc.

The company capitalizes on releasing its products around the same time as the other studio that it owns, for example Marvel and Lucasfilm. They also have their recent release of Disney Plus quickly gaining traction.

Disney's Organizational Structure:

Disney has a decentralized cooperative multidivisional (M-FORM) organizational structure. This focuses on different business types and is common in diversified companies that have a wide breadth of operations especially where these operations are carried out globally. As the company is so big it doesn't operate in unison, it has different branches that work on different things. there are multiple subunits and child companies that are under the Disney umbrella, they are intended for different purposes and independent ventures. CEO Bob Chapsek sits at the top of the cart, then he has a long list of chairmen, C-level executives, and senior vice Presidents who have their own segments to manage. For example, chairman James Pitaro overseen ESPN and Disney's cable channels while chairman Alan Bergman oversees Disney studios. they are joined by other executives.

Snow Whites Home Media Formats:

Vinyl, VHS, DVD, UltraHD, Blue Ray, CD, Laser Disc, Video Streaming

Most people in the sound track were already esteemed Oprah singers - this allowed the CD to be very popular.

Snow white was also the first film to have a soundtrack released - originally in vinyl, and there were 25 songs written to go into the film but only 8 made the cut into the final film. In 85th anniversary special edition red vinyl was released in 2022.

In the early days of discs, there was a rival to DVD, this was the laser disc. Disney releases snow white on both of them however, laser discs have been lost to history now. This was because of the Playstation 2 having a DVD player. This meant that people were able to use the Playstation 2 to play games and watch movies so people tended to forget about laser disc.

Now, the product of Snow White on laser disc sells at £100 due to its rarity.
The official VHS release, wasn't around until 1994 and release this with a soundtrack and a Dopey toy which was sold only at the Disney store, also classed as quite rare now.

Disney has a specific DVD release pattern which is quite unusual for the industry. They have a trend of bringing out a new version of a movie with bonus material, then place it in the 'Disney Vault'. The Disney Vault is when they release no new prints of something for 10 years or so, then they bring out another one with even more new behind-the-scenes content or documentaries.

"For a limited time", "Finally here", "The wait is over", "The film you've been waiting to see" - These quotes express how harshly they are trying to sell this.

Disney Plus

This is one of the clearest examples of vertical integration yet, Disney not only own their own films however, Disney plus allows them to be an exhibitor at home also.
They launched Disney Plus in 2019, 2020 and was a huge hit most likely due to its timing.
They now have around 160 million subscribers globally and has generated around $8.4bn by 2023.
